Post the output of 'ls -ld /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled'
Comment 3 Chuck Wegrzyn 2006-11-06 13:53:15 UTC
Sorry...I meant to do that and just forgot about it...

cwegrzyn@sideshow ~ $ ls -ld /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Sep 27 11:26 /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled -> /var/lib/xkb

There is no /var/lib/xkb!
Comment 4 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-06 14:07:51 UTC
# equery b /var/lib/xkb
[ Searching for file(s) /var/lib/xkb in *... ]
x11-apps/xkbcomp-1.0.2 (/var/lib/xkb)

$ grep /var/lib/xkb xkbcomp-1.0.2.ebuild
	dodir /var/lib/xkb

Re-emerge the above ebuild if you accidentially deleted the dir.
Comment 5 Chuck Wegrzyn 2006-11-06 14:12:00 UTC
Sorry but I did an 'emerge xkbcomp' and it doesn't create the /var/lib/xkb directory! So I don't think your solution is the right one.
Comment 6 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-06 14:16:05 UTC
Well sorry, but the ebuild clearly _does_ create it, as demonstrated above. Reopen with MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge xkbcomp &> log output attached here if you claim that it doesn't. It does here.

Output of emerge xkbcomp

Please wheel in the hostility. It isn't that I doubt you, I am just reporting what I see.

Thanks for the effort you are putting in to resolve this issue.

>>> /var/lib/xkb/
...
<<<        dir /var/lib/xkb

Apparently needs a keepdir; thanks.

Comment 10 Chuck Wegrzyn 2006-11-06 16:02:41 UTC
Is this something I need to do or is it something in xkbcomp and I just need to wait for the next release of it?

And once again thanks.

Just mkdir /var/lib/xkb/ and move on...
Comment 12 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-06 19:09:12 UTC
Fixed in 1.0.2-r1, thanks.
Comment 13 Lars Weiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 19:04:37 UTC
According to a user who I helped to install X on a new system, this bug needs to be reopened.

xkbcomp-1.0.2-r1 isn't available any more and xkbcomp-1.0.3 isn't stable yet. The current stable version xkbcomp-1.0.2 does not contain the keepdir-instruction.
Comment 14 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 19:45:34 UTC
The idea was that the version that is now in unstable would go stable in an acceptable period of time and the problem would be fixed. 1.0.3 has the problem fixed.

However, the change really is quite harmless, so I'll go ahead and add it to the stable ebuild as well.
