/etc/udev/rules.d/11-hplj10xx.rules creates device node with mode 0666. May be it is better to create device with mode 0660 and group lp (as it does default udev rule for printer)?

I don't seem to be experiencing the problem you're having with device permission.  I think this is probably because I'm using network rather then plugging the printer into a usb port. ;-)

So, if you are having a permission problem, instead of chmod 0666 and letting everyone access.  Why not something like 0660 and marking the group file on the device file as "lp" or "lpadmin"??
