I reemerged portaudio and then revdep-rebuild rebuilt vlc for me (unrelated). emerging wireshark now still dies with the exact same error as before.
can I get your new config.log and emerge output at time of failure just to be sure.

Stable for HPPA.
Aw, wireshark's configure still doesn't find libportaudio for HPPA. Should have read the entire bug last time, I guess. FWIW, the same problem occurs with the newer -r6.
I fixed the linking bug on hppa. The library needs to be linked using gcc and not ld. Marked -r6 stable as well.
