sphinx2-contiunous is looking for /dev/dsp witch doesn't exist. sphinx2-demo is just exiting after "[initialization]" line Sound is working fine, I can hear my voice in speakers when I talking to microphone. I'm using gentoo-sources-2.6.17-r8 configured with menuconfig with radeon added as module and QoS in the kernel. Gentoo is loading snd-intel8x0 automaticaly, and snd-mixer-oss from /etc/modules.autoload/kern-2.6 There are /dsp/sound/mixer and /dev/sound/mixer1 devices but no /dev/dsp was found. emerge --info: Portage 2.1.1-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.5 Last Sync: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 14:30:01 +0000 app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.30 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: [Not Present] dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LINGUAS="pl" MAKEOPTS="" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 apache2 apm arts avi bcmath berkdb bidi bitmap-fonts boundschecking bzip2 cairo calendar caps cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dlloader dri dvd dvdr dvdread eds elibc_glibc emboss encode esd exif fam fbcon fftw firefox flac fortran gdbm gif glut gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal iconv input_devices_evdev input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse ipv6 isdnlog jabber java javascript jpeg jpeg2 kde kerberos kernel_linux ldap lesstif libcaca libg++ linguas_pl mad mikmod mono mp3 mpeg mplayer ncurses neXt new-login nls nptl nptlonly ogg opengl oss pam pcre pdf perl plotutils png posix ppds pppd python qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sapdb sdl session spell spl ssl tcpd truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode userland_GNU video_cards_radeon videos vorbis wmf wxwindows xml xorg xv zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
try enabling OSS compatibility stuff in your kernel
Modules snd-mixer-oss and snd-intel8x0 are just described as backward alsa-oss compatibility. Instead, I compiled ac97_codec and i810_audio as modules and modprobe'd them. There is no trace of /dev/dsp, I'll try with old binary nvidia nvsound module. But at most, I think that sphinx2 and 3 could be upgraded, woudln't thee?
Is this bug still an issue?
(In reply to comment #3) > Is this bug still an issue? No, close it, delete it, or something, sorry for a problem.
