Description Richard Benjamin Voigt 2006-11-04 16:15:51 UTC
Every time the KDE system bell gets activated, I get dropped back to kdm. I first noticed that using the down arrow in vim past the end of the file caused the crash. Later I found that the down arrow at a shell in konsole would crash as well, so I thought it was a konsole bug, but I experienced it in seamonkey as well. I finally was able to reliably reproduce the bug with
> printf "\a"

Using KDE Control Center Accessibility to disable the system bell prevents the crash.

How can I track down what's going wrong? I suspect a corrupted binary.

Is this still a problem with kde-3.5.6?
Comment 2 Richard Benjamin Voigt 2007-02-15 06:07:42 UTC
Crash is gone, but the system bell doesn't make a sound. In fact, none of the test buttons in Control Center make any sound. But audacious plays just fine. Know what's hilarious? Audacious is configured with for output using arts.

Can you point me to some resources for troubleshooting that sort of thing?

Closing, as the original issue is not reproducible w/ kde-3.5.6... For the rest, erm, for starters don't use arts.
