Description James Parker 2006-11-01 17:29:50 UTC
After updating to alsa-driver-1.0.13, my system locked up while trying to load "snd_hda_intel" and required a hard reboot. After removing ALSA from runlevel, I ran alsaconf, which detected the hda_intel card on my system, but while "Loading snd-card-0" the system freezes and requires a hard reboot. Now when I do "/etc/init.d/alsasound start", my system locks up on "Loading snd-card-0". I've tried reinstalling alsa-driver, alsa-lib, and alsa-utils and nothing will fix it. Sound worked perfectly in previous versions of alsa-driver and continues to work under other operating systems.

Downgraded to alsa-driver-1.0.11 and it works perfectly again. Something about 1.0.13 and my sound card doesn't mesh well.

Same problem here. Alsa module from kernel 2.6.18-gentoo-r2 works, but no headphones there. In ALSA 1.0.13 headphones has been fixed, but system freezes at loading hda-intel module.

My hardware is HP Compaq V3000Z model (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3180330&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us)

In my case problem was resolved by adding disable_msi=1 parameter to modprobe (solution originally posted on alsa bugtrack list).

I'll try that. so far I've downgraded to 1.0.12, and it works fine. Fro me the system never freezed it simply wouldn't load the audio, reporting error (no default blah blah blah). dmesg would tell that probing 0000:something:bla:blah failed with error -13. dunno what's that. anyone any ideas?

Same here, kernel panics.., after adding "options snd-hda-intel index=0 disable_msi=1" to /etc/modprobe.conf my soundcard works again.
Comment 6 Bart Koppe 2006-12-11 03:28:32 UTC
Bug seems to be solved in alsa-driver-1.0.14_pre20061130
Don't forget to uncomment or delete the "options snd-hda-intel index=0 disable_msi=1" in /et/modprobe.conf if you put it there earlier!

Comment 7 Maik Nijhuis 2006-12-20 23:23:40 UTC
With an ASUS A8N-VM motherboard with onboard sound, I encountered exactly the same problem: Everything hangs when loading the module. Upgrading to alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc1 solved it.
Comment 8 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-17 02:34:16 UTC
Considering fixed as it's fixed in 1.0.14 series.
