The ebuild now checks for CONFIG_VIDEO_TUNER and CONFIG_VIDEO_TVEEPROM but these are not selectable. CONFIG_VIDEO_BT848 is selectable and sets both, plus some others, so I think it should check for this instead.
I spend many hours trying to figure out why ivtv was giving me a whole bunch of undefined symbol errors. It was because CONFIG_VIDEO_BT848 wasn't selected. I agree that it should check for this flag as it would have saved me a lot of time.
One thing I keep forgetting to ask is ... which card exactly are you (both) using, and what versions of IVTV? Thanks
I checked it with ivtv 0.8 during a discussion on the ivtv user ml and filed this bug: http://www.ivtvdriver.org/pipermail/ivtv-users/2006-November/004636.html and the guy reported it working on: http://www.ivtvdriver.org/pipermail/ivtv-users/2006-November/004654.html I have a pvr-350 and pvr-150, v4l2-ctl --log-status ivtv0: ================= START STATUS CARD #0 ================= tveeprom 0-0050: Hauppauge model 26559, rev G189, serial# 9512947 tveeprom 0-0050: tuner model is TCL MFPE05 2 (idx 89, type 38) tveeprom 0-0050: TV standards PAL(B/G) PAL(I) SECAM(L/L') PAL(D/D1/K) (eeprom 0x74) tveeprom 0-0050: audio processor is CX25843 (idx 37) tveeprom 0-0050: decoder processor is CX25843 (idx 30) tveeprom 0-0050: has radio, has no IR remote tda9887 0-0043: Data bytes: b=0x14 c=0x70 e=0x49 tuner 0-0061: Tuner mode: analog TV tuner 0-0061: Frequency: 816.00 MHz tuner 0-0061: Standard: 0x000000ff cx25840 0-0044: Video signal: present cx25840 0-0044: Detected format: PAL-BDGHI cx25840 0-0044: Specified standard: PAL-BDGHI cx25840 0-0044: Specified video input: Composite 7 cx25840 0-0044: Specified audioclock freq: 48000 Hz cx25840 0-0044: Detected audio mode: stereo cx25840 0-0044: Detected audio standard: A2-BG cx25840 0-0044: Audio muted: no cx25840 0-0044: Audio microcontroller: running cx25840 0-0044: Configured audio standard: automatic detection cx25840 0-0044: Configured audio system: automatic standard and mode detection cx25840 0-0044: Specified audio input: Tuner (In8) cx25840 0-0044: Preferred audio mode: stereo cx25840 0-0044: Selected 65 MHz format: autodetect cx25840 0-0044: Selected 45 MHz format: chroma wm8775 0-001b: Input: 2 ivtv0: Stream: MPEG-2 Program Stream ivtv0: Video: 720x576, 25 fps ivtv0: Video: MPEG-2, 4x3, Variable Bitrate, 6000000, Peak 8000000 ivtv0: Video: GOP Size 12, 2 B-Frames, GOP Closure, No 3:2 Pulldown ivtv0: Audio: 48 kHz, Layer II, 224 kbps, Stereo, No Emphasis, No CRC ivtv0: Spatial Filter: Manual, Luma 1D Horizontal, Chroma 1D Horizontal, 0 ivtv0: Temporal Filter: Manual, 0 ivtv0: Median Filter: Off, Luma [0, 255], Chroma [0, 255] ivtv0: ================== END STATUS CARD #0 ================== ivtv1: ================= START STATUS CARD #1 ================= tveeprom 1-0050: Hauppauge model 48139, rev K257, serial# 8234845 tveeprom 1-0050: tuner model is Philips FM1216 ME MK3 (idx 57, type 38) tveeprom 1-0050: TV standards PAL(B/G) PAL(I) SECAM(L/L') PAL(D/D1/K) (eeprom 0x74) tveeprom 1-0050: audio processor is MSP4418 (idx 25) tveeprom 1-0050: decoder processor is SAA7115 (idx 19) tveeprom 1-0050: has radio, has IR remote tda9887 1-0043: Data bytes: b=0x14 c=0x70 e=0x49 tuner 1-0061: Tuner mode: analog TV tuner 1-0061: Frequency: 848.00 MHz tuner 1-0061: Standard: 0x000000ff saa7115 1-0021: Audio frequency: 48000 Hz saa7115 1-0021: Input: Composite 4 saa7115 1-0021: Video signal: broadcast/DVD saa7115 1-0021: Frequency: 50 Hz saa7115 1-0021: Detected format: PAL saa7127 1-0044: Standard: 50 Hz saa7127 1-0044: Input: normal saa7127 1-0044: Output: S-Video + Composite saa7127 1-0044: WSS: disabled saa7127 1-0044: VPS: disabled saa7127 1-0044: CC: disabled msp3400 1-0040: MSP4418G-B3 rev1 = 0x0217 rev2 = 0x1243 msp3400 1-0040: Audio: volume 58950 msp3400 1-0040: Standard: 5.5/5.74 B/G Dual FM-Stereo (stereo) msp3400 1-0040: Audmode: 0x0001 msp3400 1-0040: Routing: 0x00000000 (input) 0x00000044 (output) msp3400 1-0040: ACB: 0x0c00 ivtv1: Stream: MPEG-2 Program Stream ivtv1: Video: 720x576, 25 fps ivtv1: Video: MPEG-2, 4x3, Variable Bitrate, 4500000, Peak 6000000 ivtv1: Video: GOP Size 12, 2 B-Frames, GOP Closure, No 3:2 Pulldown ivtv1: Audio: 48 kHz, Layer II, 384 kbps, Stereo, No Emphasis, No CRC ivtv1: Spatial Filter: Manual, Luma 1D Horizontal, Chroma 1D Horizontal, 0 ivtv1: Temporal Filter: Manual, 0 ivtv1: Median Filter: Off, Luma [0, 255], Chroma [0, 255] ivtv1: ================== END STATUS CARD #1 ==================

It should be noted to avoid confusion that while IVTV doesnt use the cx88 modules, it does turn on the other options.

Ok, thanks. Why cx88, the ivtv website uses the bttv module. I know it sets the same modules but this will be confusing for some.
