I have had a problem with x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810-1.6.5 after x11-base/xorg-x11-7.1 upgrade. After this upgrade I was not able to suspend to the ram anymore. After the resume display stayed black. I was not able to switch to to text mode (CTRL+ALT+F1,2,3...) or to the graphics mode (CTRL+ALT+F7). Second problem was with xvideo in graphics mode. When I tried to play a movie (mplayer -vo xv file.avi, realplay http://someaddress/file.rm, ...), sometimes X server crashed. It looked like X server crashed and tried to start again but the display was all black and only small area around mouse cursor was white. When I upgraded to the last x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810-1.7.2, then this problem desappeared. I thin that you should make this last version stable. Similar kind of problems: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-508195-highlight-xorg+suspend.html http://lists.suspend2.net/lurker/message/20061022.230747.fb295a1a.en.html
The current plan is to make 1.7.2 stable in two weeks (waiting the standard month after introduction into testing). 1.7.2 introduces quite a few changes/fixes, so I don't think we should rush it. Marking as LATER until the appropriate time.
bugzie
Much newer versions are now stable in portage. Closing with the proper resolution.
