Hachoir-metadata is a command-line tool which can extract various kind of metadatas from binary files.  It is written in Python, based on the "hachoir" and "hachoir-parser" modules.
The ebuild i will attach uses distutils.eclass, and is pretty simple.

Version 0.10.0, using hachoir-core 0.9 and hachoir-parser 0.10.
Comes with two plugins : for nautilus and konqueror.
