Description hossein 2003-02-09 03:45:58 UTC
This is right after a clean install of 1.4_rc2 and emerging the latest xfree
(4.2.9.blah)
I have tried this emerge multiple times. I even tried emerging file-roller
seperately to no avail. I Have tried reducing the compiler flags also just in
case I was doing something wrong (I tried -O2 -pipe -march=pentium4). I was not
able to complete the emerge under any circumstances. I tried redirecting the
complete output to a file (using >) but the errors are still displayed to
screen so what is included is what I was able to write down on paper before I
booted back into windows for this bug report.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge gnome or emerge file-roller

Actual Results:
Failed to create /root/.gconf.d: Permission Denied
/bin/install: cannot stat 'file-roller-c.omf.out' No such file or directory
make[4]: *** [install_data_hook-omf] Error 1
make[3]: *** [install_data_am] Error 2
make[2]: *** [install_am] Error 2
make[1]: *** [install_recursive] Error 1
make: *** [install_recursive] Error 1
!!!ERROR2: app-arch/file-roller-2.2.1 failed
!!!Function einstall line 348, Exit code 2
!!!einstall failed

Expected Results:
a complete and successful emerge.

I hope I chose the right severity level ;)

what is your locale ? output of 'emerge info' ? did you try building with MAKEOPTS="-j1" set ?

And no i don't consider individual failures 'blockers', they don't block the whole distro.

try running portage as true root btw (su -)
Comment 3 hossein 2003-02-12 13:48:44 UTC
after trying remerge multiple times and unmerging, gnome was emerged. Now it is working. I am not able to say what the problem was in the first place, all I know is that it suddenly started working.

thanks for the tips
