I am attempting to install Gentoo 2006.1 on a Sun Fire v210. I have downloaded the minimal install cd, and am trying to install it through serial console. (the v210 does not have a standard console). I tried with both "2616" and "2617" kernels with the same results. Anyways, here is my problem: ok boot cdrom SC Alert: Host System has Reset . Sun Fire V210, No Keyboard Copyright 1998-2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved. OpenBoot 4.11.4, 4096 MB memory installed, Serial #55563505. Ethernet address 0:3:ba:4f:d4:f1, Host ID: 834fd4f1. Rebooting with command: boot cdrom Boot device: /pci@1e,600000/ide@d/cdrom@0,0:f File and args: SILO Version 1.4.13 \ ---------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the Gentoo/Linux SPARC64 InstallCD 2006.1 ---------------------------------------------------- boot: 2616 Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel Loaded kernel version 2.6.16 Loading initial ramdisk (644214 bytes at 0x33FDEC000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt)... Not that I was expecting different results, but I just tried toe universal install cd and got the same results.
Doing some more digging I see this has been reported on gentoo-sparc mailing list already... but I can't seem to find it in bugzilla to mark this as a duplicate :\
Tried upgrading your OBP? 4.11.4 is horribly old and we've seen many problems with old OBP versions like this.
Daniel, didn't you say you have a v210 available? Can we verify that this is still a problem on 2007.0?
Can someone verify that this is still an issue with 2008.0 Beta 1?
Please reopen if this is still an issue with 2008.0
