I have app-emulation/vmware-workstation-5.5.1.19175-r7 and app-emulation/vmware-dsp-1.3. When I start vmware I'm getting: /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/bin/vmware: /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2) /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/bin/vmware: /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2) /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/bin/vmware: /opt/vmware/workstation/lib/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2) ERROR: ld.so: object 'libvmdsp.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. I get the last line when I power on the virtual machine. And sound is not working in the VM. # emerge --info Portage 2.1.1 (default-linux/x86/2006.1, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.17-gentoo-r8 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo-r8 i686 Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2250 @ 1.73GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.12.5 Last Sync: Sat, 28 Oct 2006 11:30:01 +0000 app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.30 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: [Not Present] dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LINGUAS="" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/portage/local/layman/sunrise /usr/portage/local/layman/vmware" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aac alsa apm asf avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cli cracklib crypt cups divx4linux dlloader dri dvd dvdr dvdread elibc_glibc encode esd fam flac gdbm gif gnome gnutls gpm iconv imlib input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse ipv6 isdnlog jpeg kde kdeenablefinal kdexdeltas kernel_linux libg++ libwww live mad matroska mmx mmx2 moznocompose moznoirc moznomail moznoxft mp3 mpeg nas ncurses network nls nptl nptlonly ogg oggvorbis opengl pam pcre pdflib png ppds pppd qt quicktime readline real reflection rtc rtsp session shout slang spell spl sse sse2 sse3 ssl tcpd theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode userland_GNU video_cards_fglrx vorbis win32codecs x86 xml2 xorg xv xvid zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Created attachment 131263 [details] use -m4444 to /usr/lib/libvmdsp.so, add vmplayeresd and vmplayerarts I found that the libvmdsp.so should be -m4444, so modify the ebuild and add vmplayeresd to use esd for vmplayer
Created attachment 131264 [details, diff] contain the vmplayeresd , vmplayerarts and the modification of runme.sh as the description
I encount the same problem as you, and search for a night without any idea. This morning I use the runme.sh to install vmwaredsp, and found where the problem is. By the way, I start /etc/init.d/esound on boot :-)
