Description Sam 2006-10-27 11:44:43 UTC
I will not bother to correct repeat charcters as I am typing this to illustrate part of the problem. I am having some trouble with my mouse and keyboard working properly. In gnome, orrrrrr posibly just X in general, I have a problem with the keyboard spewing out extra chacters from time to time. This can become quite anoying when I am writing code. Also, even more anoying is the mouse seems to lose focus on the windowwwww at hand. For some reason, it would seem that a cursor loses focus in a window and the right at lefft clicks stop working. If I do some alt tabbing, I can normally get the mouse working again in that window. These might be some of the factors that might help in getting to the bottom of the problem. I just bought this new laptop, so some of the hardware is quite new. I don't have any of these problems on my old laptop. My system is as follows:
Dell XPS M1210 with..
Core 2 Duo 2.33 MHz processor
Nvidia Geforce Go 7400
2 GB 677 DDR2
Those are the only things that I think could matter. I am running the AMD64 kernel on the ~AMD664 tree. I have installed gnome 2.16.0....

Other things I have tried:
KDE ssseemed to work better, I had no mouse problems, but I did get the occasional keyboard problem. The keyboard and mmmmouse work perfectly fine in a virtual console..

Exactly the same issue (~amd64): Focus lose and keyboard problems: Liiiiikeee thhhhis.

When I click on a folder in "konqueror" (KDE) or at a starter symbol in the Gnome Panel it hangs for some seconds.

I have a Dell Notebook too:
Dell XPS M1710
Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16Ghz
2GB DDR2-667 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GO 7900GTX 512MB

Do you think this has anything to do with using theee march=nocona, because Core 2 architecture is very diffrent from nocona. It is much closer to pentium-m, but pentium-m is not 64 bit.

It looks like if fixed the problem! That problem was driving me crazy. I have been running for about 30 min. without a problem. Also fixed a few other anyoances, so that is good too.

So, when I went into the kernel .config file, you can see the option, but in menuconfig you can't turn it off. It seems like it is part of the EM64T profile. I that some kind of bug with the current kernel and Core 2 processors?
