Description Stefano Balocco 2006-10-26 06:01:46 UTC
Mplayer may depend on twolame and toolame.
Is a good idea to set a use flag for these.
Comment 1 Steve Dibb (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-26 07:28:08 UTC
For the record, MPlayer will autodetect twolame if its installed, so if you want support for it, just emerge them both.

toolame is dead upstream.
Comment 2 Stefano Balocco 2006-10-26 10:33:40 UTC
The twolame dependency, IMO, must be manage as the lame dependence.

Why? MPlayer already has two excellent MP3 libraries (mp3lame and lavc) and an MP2 library (lavc) for audio encoding.
Comment 4 Stefano Balocco 2006-10-27 03:28:52 UTC
Because Twolame is better that lavc. But this is secondary. Mainly just because exist the option.

(Twolame is only MP2, so I don't understand why you tell me about the 2 mp3 libs... :)).

I installed mplayer with twolame support, and couldn't even get it working.

Anything with mencoder -oac twolame just exits w/no errors. Have you even got it working on your end? If so, post emerge --info and versions you're using.
Comment 6 Steve Dibb (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-10 08:01:19 UTC
marking test-request
Comment 7 Stefano Balocco 2006-11-10 11:35:11 UTC
IMO this isn't related to the opened bug...
However:

stefano@stefano-ng ~ $ mencoder -oac twolame -ovc copy a_video.mpg -o pippo.tmp
...
normal mencoder output, nothing interesting
...
stefano@stefano-ng ~ $ mplayer -dumpstream -dumpaudio audio pippo.tmp
...
normal mplayer output, nothing interesting
...
Core dumped ;)

In uscita... (Fine del file)
stefano@stefano-ng ~ $ ll stream.dump
-rw--w---- 1 stefano users 4778884 10 nov 20:33 stream.dump
stefano@stefano-ng ~ $ file stream.dump
stream.dump: MPEG ADTS, layer II, v1, 192 kBits, 44.1 kHz, Stereo
