open firefox, reduce window size, so firefox occupies not the complete desktop (excluding taskbar). Use firefox and maximize the application.
Then close firefox and restart it.
Firefox does not start with window size maximized.
The problem can be corrected by editing ~/.mozilla/firefox/xyz.default/localstore.rdf.
There is a entry "main-window" and lines "width" and "height". These lines can be edited and the problem is solved.

Maximizes just fine here; if you have a way to reproduce, submit this upstream please.

Comment 2 Armin Mohring 2006-10-25 08:12:15 UTC
OK. I have found a way to reproduce it.

Open firefox 1.5.0.7.
Change window size, so in right of firefox, you can open a terminal window. Open a
terminal.
Close the terminal. Maximize firefox.
Close Firefox.
Restart Firefox. Firefox does not open maximized.
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-25 08:15:47 UTC
Yes, still maximizes fine here. As said, report that upstream.
