About two weeks ago, I started get random craches in xorg-7.x. First I believed that it were du to problems with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.8762-r1 so I unmasked (at that time) x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.8774 but the error were still there. I then turned to gentoo-sources-2.6.18 with both nvidia-drivers versions without any luck. During the time, I have also updated to xorg-7.1 but that didn't help either. The problem is a litle bit tricky to debug as it does only appear after about 1 week of uptime. When I left home last friday, X were up 'n running, once I returned home yesterday, X had died so I restarted it only to find it dead again this morning. You can find some of the logs with approximate date (didn't save them by date in the begining) here: http://www.azoff.se/error/gentoo/xorg/ If you need anything else, just ask. Please try 8776, or even better would be the hard masked 9626 BETA version.
Oki, I just emerged 8776. Will have to wait a few days to see if it's stable with it. Closing this bug in the mean time if you like.
I now did get a crash again, this time with the "new" 8776 driver. You can find the xorg logfile on the same url as the other logfiles from my init. post. I have also put the output from nvidia-bug-report.sh on the same url.
As much as I hate to say it, can you try 9626?
I did merge it yesterday (right after I submited my comment here). The only reason I did that comment were for you to see that 8776 didn't work for me.
Cool. Keep me informed.
This is realy getting my nerves now.. Got another crash now. Logs are in the same url. Do you have anything else I could try? It looks like it's somewhat related to uptime as it didn't crash the first days, but now it's getting more and more frequent (this time in less than 2days).
Two questions which aren't obvious from the output. What motherboard do you have and is your video card AGP/PCI-e? I would also suggest seeing if there's a new firmware for your card and bios for your motherboard. Also, try running "eselect opengl set nvidia" and see if it makes a difference.
I put the output of lshw on the httpd too. My motherboard is this: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=637 And my graphics card is this: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=639 There are no way I could flash my gfx ATM as I do not have Windows and I do not wanna buy it just to be able to flash the card. My motherboard have 4 updates, but none of them seam to be about stability issues with graphics, they are only about CPU id and logo stuff. I have switched the opengl stuff now, I'll see if it helps. I'll also ask some friends if they got a Wintendo installation on a PCI-E enabled motherboard that I could use to flash it, but I do not think they have such "new" hardware. If you have any other sugestions, please tell as I am out of ideas. I have also changed the cooler on the GPU to a Zahlman, but the temperature has been arround 5-10 degree below the boxed cooler since I changed about a year ago and have run stable until now. Right now, the temperature is about 45 degrees.

Let me know. The changed fan wouldn't make a difference unless the card was overheating.
(In reply to comment #10) > http://www.nenie.org/misc/flashbootcd.html And how does this help me when it's a *windows program* to update it? > The changed fan wouldn't make a difference unless the card was overheating. No, it weren't. It were just loud! =)
Hello again. I have been running 2.6.18-gentoo for the last 40 days without any more crashes or lookups, so I guess this bug should be closed. Btw, during this time I have been running 1.0.96xx drivers from nvidia.
