Description morgan wahl 2006-10-22 17:21:24 UTC
When gnumeric "sorts" entries containing devanagri text, it not only doesn't put them in the right order, it seems to put them in a random order. Even the _default_ unicode collation order would be good enough.

spreadsheet with columns that don't sort in any order

This gnumeric file has several columns, each of which should be able to be sorted as text. One column has hindi words in devanagri script, one has them transcribed into latin using various IPA characters and diacritics, and one has english glosses.

the seemingly random sorting behaviour is maybe easier to see if you sort the column that only has latin characters, but includes some that don't have ASCII equivalents. It seems these characters are simply ignored in sorting.

by the way, i'm using gnumeric 1.6.3.

This bug should go upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org).

Hi morgan, thanks for filling this bug but this really should go upstream.
Also, could you test the newly released gnumeric-1.8 ?
Comment 5 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-24 10:03:20 UTC
as far as I can see with the attached file, this is fixed in 1.8.1
If it's not please reopen this bug a create an upstream bug as well.
