Good idea. I'll consult with some other devs to work this out. In the meantime, just so
I'm clear, can language.dat be placed in a local texmf? /usr/local/share/texmf for
example?

Ok -- which language.dat do you want protected? I see several:

/usr/share/texmf/source/latex/local/language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/source/latex/platex/language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/source/generic/babel/language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/omega/lambda/base/language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/language.dat

These may not be able to be config-protected; the architecture of the tetex ebuild may have
to get more complicated to support multiple hyphenations, but perhaps we can do it.
Comment 3 Matthew Turk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-02-07 03:46:12 UTC
Ok, I config protected:

/usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/
/usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/

Will close. Reopen if more directories need to be added. I chose not to protect Omega, as
it seems to be fully uncommented as is and probably needs no adjustment.
