app-cdr/brasero-0.4.90 ebuild works fine with 0.5.0 too.

Not truly functional.
If totem use flag is turned off, Brasero 0.5.0 will not compile with 0.4.90 ebuild.
Also I have a strange error with brasero while burning a data CD. It states that the blank CD is not blank and prompt to change the CD while cdrecord is (correctly) writing data...

better wait for a 0.5.1 release before commit to portage i can see that totem bug.

Warning i still didn't enabled the libburn backend because i didn't had time to test. If you want to help please test and open a bug requesting.
