Description Andrew Dorney 2006-10-19 20:15:09 UTC
I upgraded to gaim-2.0.0_beta4 tonight. GAIM freezes whenever I try to add a buddy icon, whether I use the new Global Buddy Icon button or manually set them in each account. I enter the file selector, pick a file (or hit Cancel), and then all of GAIM freezes and I have to force quit.

I can't get a backtrace from GDB, as it's not segfaulting.

Here are the messages I get that might relate:

util: Writing file accounts.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim
util: Writing file blist.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim
util: Writing file prefs.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim

As a side note, I've compiled nautilus without the #343488 patch and the result was the same.
Comment 3 Jory A. Pratt 2006-10-20 07:29:11 UTC
Severity of this bug is invalid ... learn to use normal for packages that are p.masked.
Comment 4 Kathryn Kulick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-25 05:05:56 UTC
is this still happening with the updates, beta4-r2 should be the latest.
Comment 5 Andrew Dorney 2006-10-25 06:13:08 UTC
Yes it is.
Comment 6 Andrew Dorney 2006-10-27 20:29:57 UTC
I did notice this in the output:

buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to gif as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/57cd36f3
buddyicon: Could not convert to gif: This build of gdk-pixbuf does not support saving the image format: gif

I get this when I run emerge -p gdk-pixbuf:

[ebuild NS ] x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r12 USE="-debug nls" LINGUAS="-az -ca -cs -da -de -el -es -et -eu -fi -fr -ga -gl -hr -hu -it -ja -ko -lt -nl -nn -no -pl -pt -pt_BR -ro -ru -sk -sl -sr -sv -tr -uk -vi"
[ebuild NS ] sys-libs/db-1.85-r3
[ebuild N ] dev-util/indent-2.2.9-r2 USE="nls"
[ebuild NS ] gnome-base/orbit-0.5.17-r1

[ebuild N ] media-libs/gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0-r5 USE="X -doc (-mmx)"

Here's my gaim useflag configuration, if you need it.

[ebuild R ] net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta4-r2 USE="-avahi -bonjour cjk crypt -custom-flags dbus debug -doc eds -gadu gnutls gstreamer -meanwhile -mono msn nas nls perl -qq -silc spell ssl startup-notification -tcl -tk xscreensaver" 0 kB

Am I missing an important library, and if so, shouldn't the ebuild have caught that?
Comment 7 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-27 20:42:41 UTC
the gdk-pixbuf you want is the one that's part of gtk+ 2. Can you see .gifs with eog ?
Comment 8 Andrew Dorney 2006-10-28 07:21:55 UTC
I converted a picture to .gif in GIMP and was able to see it using EOG, yes.
Comment 9 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-28 07:34:00 UTC
strange, your gdk-pixbuf supports gif.. very strange
Comment 10 Kathryn Kulick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-11 20:48:38 UTC
please let me know if beta5 has the same issue
Comment 11 Andrew Dorney 2006-11-12 07:00:38 UTC

> please let me know if beta5 has the same issue

It does.
Comment 12 Kathryn Kulick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-22 05:38:08 UTC
Does this happen when you try to set any image or just this one particular one? If it is just the one image, what size is it and could you possibly try another one?
Comment 13 Andrew Dorney 2006-11-22 06:21:10 UTC
This happens regardless of what image I try to use, regardless of the format.
Comment 14 Andrew Dorney 2006-12-05 14:34:29 UTC
Something I updated recently must have fixed the issue because it's working now. Thanks for your help.
