I upgraded to gaim-2.0.0_beta4 tonight. GAIM freezes whenever I try to add a buddy icon, whether I use the new Global Buddy Icon button or manually set them in each account. I enter the file selector, pick a file (or hit Cancel), and then all of GAIM freezes and I have to force quit. I can't get a backtrace from GDB, as it's not segfaulting. Here are the messages I get that might relate: util: Writing file accounts.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim util: Writing file blist.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim util: Writing file prefs.xml to directory /home/andrew/.gaim buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to gif as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/a803129f buddyicon: Could not convert to gif: This build of gdk-pixbuf does not support saving the image format: gif buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to jpeg as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/a803129f buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to png as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/afe474b0 buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to png as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/cdcde2d msn: C: NS 000: CHG 12 NLN 1073741856 %3cmsnobj%20Creator%3d%22trentonj%40hotmail%2ecom%22%20Size%3d%224190%22%20Type%3d%223%22%20Location%3d%22TFR2C2%2etmp%22%20Friendly%3d%22AAA%3d%22%20SHA1D%3d%22jqpCjEvTaXNEdC5tt6rn%2bLMYfYA%3d%22%20SHA1C%3d%22%2fY1C9NTZUdV7ZHiw0mMdRo7kVUc%3d%22%2f%3e buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to png as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/951597b1 dns: DNS query for 'filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com' queued prefs: /gaim/gtk/accounts/buddyicon changed, scheduling save. As a side note, I've compiled nautilus without the #343488 patch and the result was the same.
Severity of this bug is invalid ... learn to use normal for packages that are p.masked.
is this still happening with the updates, beta4-r2 should be the latest.
Yes it is.
I did notice this in the output: buddyicon: Converting buddy icon to gif as /home/andrew/.gaim/icons/57cd36f3 buddyicon: Could not convert to gif: This build of gdk-pixbuf does not support saving the image format: gif I get this when I run emerge -p gdk-pixbuf: [ebuild NS ] x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r12 USE="-debug nls" LINGUAS="-az -ca -cs -da -de -el -es -et -eu -fi -fr -ga -gl -hr -hu -it -ja -ko -lt -nl -nn -no -pl -pt -pt_BR -ro -ru -sk -sl -sr -sv -tr -uk -vi" [ebuild NS ] sys-libs/db-1.85-r3 [ebuild N ] dev-util/indent-2.2.9-r2 USE="nls" [ebuild NS ] gnome-base/orbit-0.5.17-r1 [ebuild N ] media-libs/imlib-1.9.14-r3 [ebuild N ] gnome-base/gnome-libs-1.4.2 USE="-doc esd kde nls" [ebuild N ] media-libs/gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0-r5 USE="X -doc (-mmx)" Here's my gaim useflag configuration, if you need it. the gdk-pixbuf you want is the one that's part of gtk+ 2. Can you see .gifs with eog ?
I converted a picture to .gif in GIMP and was able to see it using EOG, yes.
strange, your gdk-pixbuf supports gif.. very strange
please let me know if beta5 has the same issue
(In reply to comment #10) > please let me know if beta5 has the same issue > It does.
Does this happen when you try to set any image or just this one particular one? If it is just the one image, what size is it and could you possibly try another one?
This happens regardless of what image I try to use, regardless of the format.
Something I updated recently must have fixed the issue because it's working now. Thanks for your help.
