Description William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-17 13:20:43 UTC
Initial ebuild made as Java generation 1 and in overlay for over a year. Ported to generation 2 java some time back. Been in portage for almost a month as ~arch. No bugs. Requesting stabilization now that Java generation 2 has been stabilized.
Comment 1 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-17 13:22:05 UTC
again, no java for sparc.
Comment 2 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-17 13:27:01 UTC
Remved archs that don't have java, whoops sry :)
Comment 3 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-17 14:08:25 UTC
Removing archs that are not even ~arch.
Comment 4 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 01:12:05 UTC

[ebuild  N    ] dev-java/jdbc-jaybird-2.0.1  USE="jikes -doc -examples -source -test"

===
1) why does it have USE=jikes? Compiler selection should be handled by the new system if I remember correctly.
===

2) emerges fine so far
[move] Warning: Could not find file /var/tmp/portage/jdbc-jaybird-2.0.1/work/client-java/output/native/libjaybird.sl to copy.

3) passes collision test
4) fails some tests as
[junit] Test org.firebirdsql.jdbc.TestFBDecimalConversions FAILED
even with firebird pulled in...

5) after testing version 2.1.0 of this ebuild (see bug #151747), I noticed it is NOT slotted...so I see no sense in stabling both. Java team, please advise.

Comment 5 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 07:01:06 UTC
Jikes is just left over from way back when. Not sure why it was not removed when ported to generation 2. Not sure who did the porting, would have to look in logs. I have removed jikes for now. As for the .so missing when attempting to be copied. I would assume it's not getting built. I think I recall a problem with 2.1.0, but it was a compile issue. I would double check on the native stuff and followup.

As for the stabilizing two versions. 2.0.1 has been around for about a year or so. 2.1.0 has been out for a few months. I would like to see both stabilized, and no they are not slotted. But someone might prefer one version over the other. Just wanted to have all available so the user could chose. FYI this is all the same as jdbc-firebirdsql, just renamed per upstream package. I might move that 1.5.6 version into the jaybird directory, and see about stabilizing it as well if it currently is not.

No comment on the failed JUnit test. I doubt its of major concern atm.
Comment 6 Markus Meier gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 11:06:43 UTC
1. emerges on x86
2. passes collision test
3. fails test suite:
BUILD FAILED
/var/tmp/portage/jdbc-jaybird-2.0.1/work/client-java/build/test.xml:20: Could not create task or type of type: junit.

Ant could not find the task or a class this task relies upon.

This is common and has a number of causes; the usual
solutions are to read the manual pages then download and
install needed JAR files, or fix the build file:
etc...

Comment 7 Josh Nichols (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 12:22:43 UTC
The fix is to change the ant-core dep to:

test? ( dev-java/ant )
!test? (dev-java/ant-core )

The difference is that dev-java/ant pulls in dev-java/ant-tasks, which provides the junit task. This applies to the other bug as well.
Comment 8 Josh Nichols (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 12:25:08 UTC
To clarify further, there is a test USE flag, but it only pulls in junit. But junit itself doesn't provide the junit task: dev-java/ant-tasks does.
Comment 9 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 13:32:08 UTC
I am not sure as to what you are suggesting as a solution. The sources come with a bundled junit.jar which get's deleted. I just did
use test && java-pkg_jar-from junit junit.jar
To replace the bundled one with a system provided one. It resolved the issue, but not as elegant. I can remove and modify deps if that's the preferred way to go about it.

Otherwise I just committed a change, and it resolves the issue. Would have gone the dep route first, but had already made the commit before I received he suggestion.
Comment 10 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-18 13:57:18 UTC
Ok simply changing the dep to

test? ( dev-java/ant )
!test? (dev-java/ant-core )

does not resolve the problem. Providing the junit.jar as committed to tree does seem to resolve. Not sure if I needed to do something else beyond just modifying the deps as suggested. Otherwise the change just committed should resolve any issues with the test USE flag.
Comment 11 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-04 10:56:40 UTC
Any word on the stabilization progress? As for the one FBDecimal junit test failing I would not be concerned. It's just one, and likely a know problem with upstream or etc. I will have to look into that a bit, but should not be a show stopper or prevent stabilization.

 Ok, so x86 is done.
