When bind-9.3.2 is compiled with openssl 0.9.8 series I get a segfault when starting named. It works again after recompiling bind with openssl 0.9.7 series. It fails on the following systems: Portage 2.1.1 (hardened/x86/2.6, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.17-hardened-r1 i686) Portage 2.1.1-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.17-gentoo-r4 x86_64) When I tried on another machine: Portage 2.1.1 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.18-suspend2 i686) using the new gcc and glibc, named didn't segfault and recompiling openssl and bind with gcc-3.4.6 on the working machine still didn't 'cause a segfault.
can't reproduce it. lease, post full `emerge --info` here.
Because I use openldap for user accounts I had to remerge the openldap libraries. This fixed the problem.
