Emerge went quite far into installing and building packages and failed either to install a configuration file and/or point at a useable configuration file before the error with hal had happened. I thought portage was supposed to be able to do automated installs and to figure some of this stuff out. Not a portage issue.
Plus reopen with some real errors, not clear at all what do you mean.
