Build Identifier:

Having got a speakup-enabled version of gentoo working I wanted to emerge
gnopernicus and hal was a dependency. In /usr/src I have a linux and linux-
2.6.17r8 directory trees. Emerge went quite far into installing and building
packages and failed either to install a configuration file and/or point at a
useable configuration file before the error with hal had happened. I thought
portage was supposed to be able to do automated installs and to figure some of
this stuff out.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
1) do networkless advanced install and enable a speakup synthesizer I used ltlk
on grub command line speakup_synth=ltlk speakup_ser=0 nox acpi=force 2) do
emerge --sync 3) do emerge --update --newuse --deep world 4) do emerge
gnopernicus

Actual Results:
a broken emerge failed dependency was hal

Expected Results:
1) install useable configuration file, 2) locate useable configuration file, 3)
use useable configuration

Not a portage issue.

Plus reopen with some real errors, not clear at all what do you mean.
