When switching between HIGH Contrast themes, and themes such as plastik, it appears that certain remnants of the old high contrast theme get left behind in kde. These "remnants" last throughout restarting of kde and the system. This is easily seen with the kopete application. To reproduce with kopete open and signed on, switch to a High Contrast theme, and then back to Plastik. You'll see that every other row in kopete is colored with a scheme put in place by the former theme. If using High Contrast Dark, every other row will be black, if using High Contrast Light, every other line will be a purplish color. My workaround for this temporarily was to modify the /usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kthememanager/themes/HighContrastLight file and change the alternateBackground tag's rgb value to white instead of the purplish color. Then switching back to the High Contrast Light theme and once again back to Plastik. This effectively hides the problem (in kopete at least), but is not a true fix obviously.
