Don't know if you are still around but maybe try the 2.6 version that is in testing? If you don't know how to access a testing build use the following commands as root (assuming you are x86, if you are something else use ~arch)

# echo "x11-wm/plwm ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# emerge --ask --verbose x11-wm/plwm

That should then offer you version 2.6. If you could test that version and report back what is going on I'd really appreciate it.

I checked it out myself and it doesn't work for me. However this could be because I have amd64 and I am trying to use the x86 package (there isn't one for amd64 yet).

I don't know much python myself but I'll try and check into the code for bugs in a few weeks. This weekend I'll try and package up an amd64 version so I can be sure that it really is broken on amd64 as well and its not just some packaging problem.

Hopefully the newest version will work for you and we can close this bug by submitting a new one to get 2.6 stabilized as the working version. Even the newest version is 2 years old so who knows how this will go.
Comment 2 John 2007-03-07 19:58:22 UTC
Ok I can confirm that 2.6 does work on x86. So try that out and see if it works for you too! =)
Comment 3 John 2007-03-08 18:43:00 UTC
recommend that this bug be marked closed. This error is obviously from not having dev-python/python-xlib installed. The new ebuild for 2.6 does depend on this and so this should not be an issue any more.

So I guess this would be a CLOSED FIXED? I dunno what to call it except its fixed in the newer ebuild. It was a dependency problem.
Comment 4 Søren Chrestensen 2007-03-15 21:04:53 UTC
This should indeed be marked as closed as plwm-2.5 now has a DEPEND on python-xlib and compiles fine here.

Though if the error did come with python-xlib installed, then something perky happened so either CLOSED FIXED or NEEDINFO.
Comment 5 Santiago M. Mola (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-29 14:18:37 UTC
It was python-xlib being only in RDEPEND and not DEPEND.

This problem and others are solved in x11-wm/plwm-2.5-r1.

-r1 stabilized and old revisions removed. Closing...
