Description Roy Walker 2006-10-05 15:47:34 UTC
On 2006.0 for AMD64 adding dodmraid worked just fine to initialize the raid. You would get the correct entry in /dev/mapper. With 2006.1 (both livecd and minimal) this does not work. Since dmraid is not included on the install cd, there doesn't seem to be a way to troubleshoot this.

Same here.
Tested it with kernel 2.6.15 - 2.6.18 (vanilla and gentoo sources) dmraid 1.0.0-pre8 - 1.0.0-pre12 but no luck.

There's also another problem which I can't describe very well at the moment and which is the cause for using that kernel.
With newer kernels, system performance is very slow because of slow data transfer rates (hdparm -t measures > 20 mb/s, with this kernel i get 60 mb/s)

Uhh... he's specifically talking about the release media, not an installed system.

This is a known problem with the release media that has been fixed in genkernel 3.4.1, but wasn't fixed in time for 2006.1's release.

Yeah, so this implies, updating the Live/Install CD/DVD with DMRaid put back in and genkernel updated so us NForce 5x0 people who wants to REBUILD Gentoo CAN.

What's the hold up of a 'Live/Install 2006.15' interim release?
Regards, Ron
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-01 15:07:53 UTC
We have no plans on making an interim release. The next release is 2007.0, which should be some time in the first quarter of next year. For now, feel free to use the 2006.0 media.
Comment 5 Andrew Gaffney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-10 15:13:37 UTC
2007.0 has been released, so this should be fixed.
