Description Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-01 21:05:38 UTC
As per summary, please take a look to the new revision of libao, and rekeyword when you can.

This version adds a pulseaudio useflag that brings in the media-plugins/libao-pulse package to provide support for PulseAudio server.
Please keyword libao-pulse (after testing) if PulseAudio works on your platform. If it doesn't, then please mask the pulseaudio useflag.

Please note that in this moment it's a PDEPEND, but 0.8.7 will contain libao-pulse inside the package, so if you don't even have PulseAudio keyworded you won't be able to use that either.

*If you're going to keyword pulseaudio, make sure you also keyword the latest esound as per bug #141223 or your deptree will be broken*

Thanks,
Diego

How can we test libao pulse module? I tried using pyao while pulseaudio server was started but without success:

#!/usr/bin/python

import ao

print ao.driver_info('pulse')
dev = ao.AudioDevice('pulse')

output:
{'comment': 'Outputs to the PulseAudio Sound Server', 'name': 'PulseAudio Output', 'short_name': 'pulse', 'author': 'mzyvonbchyfr (at) 0pointer (dot) de'}
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "hum.py", line 6, in ?
    dev = ao.AudioDevice('pulse')
ao.aoError: Error opening device.

Myself, I tested with ogg123, and system-wide PulseAudio. I'm not sure how pyao works, so I cannot tell if that requires something different.
Comment 4 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2006-10-04 09:58:00 UTC
ppc-macos keyword dropped entirely
Comment 5 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-05 14:50:08 UTC
Now I'm using ogg123 to test and it works fine when using libao alsa driver but plays white noise when I switch to pulse driver.

Hopefully I can get lu_zero's help on this, since he keyworded the pulseaudio server for ppc (seems I missed him by about 5 min today...)
