Description Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-01 11:06:05 UTC
* Checking for suitable kernel configuration options... [ ok ]
 *
 * Your kernel source contains an incompatible version of the
 * ieee80211 subsystem, which needs to be removed before
 * ieee80211-1.2.15 can be installed. This can be accomplished by running:
 *
 *   # /bin/sh /usr/portage/net-wireless/ieee80211/files/remove-old /usr/src/linux
 *
 * Please note that this will make it impossible to use some of the
 * in-kernel IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN drivers (eg. orinoco).
 *

!!! ERROR: net-wireless/ieee80211-1.2.15 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1562: Called dyn_setup
  ebuild.sh, line 665: Called pkg_setup

!!! Incompatible in-kernel ieee80211 subsystem detected
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.

Error in sys.exitfunc:

Commented config variables should not make the ebuild fail.

I don't understand your comment. It's not a commented config variable causing the failure, it's the #undef. The script removes in-kernel 80211 code, and the #undef is part of it. ("#" is part of the line, not a comment.)

If you answer "y" to the script, does ieee80211 still not compile?

As Thomas pointed out correctly, #undef isn't a config variable, it's C syntax.
