Please post the output of "ls -l of /etc/env.d/binutils/". Installed binutils for target i686-pc-linux-gnu Did you recently change your CHOST? If yes, i'd bet you haven't cleaned up binutils settings properly. Anyway, this is definitely a bug. ASSIGNED.
I was able to reproduce this with a stray config file for a non-existing target. Workaround: Remove /etc/env.d/binutils/config-i386-pc-linux-gnu I'll now change binutils.eselect to die on stray config files and display a message to remove that file.
