sometimes when i restart xdm (by /etc/init.d or by closing the session), i have an wrong resolution. my resolution is e.g. "1280*1025" instead of "1280*1024" then. When I switch to another vt and then back to the vt, on which x11 is, the resolution is correct. versions: xorg-x11: 7.0-r1 xorg-server: 1.0.2-r7 xdm: 1.0.5 emerge --info: Gentoo Base System version 1.12.5 Portage 2.1.1 (default-linux/x86/2006.1/desktop, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.18 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.18 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Last Sync: Sat, 30 Sep 2006 09:50:01 +0000 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-java/java-config: [Not Present] dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: 0.4.2-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=prescott -fomit-frame-pointer -mfpmath=sse -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=prescott -fomit-frame-pointer -mfpmath=sse -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache confcache distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/" LANG="de_DE@euro" LC_ALL="de_DE@euro" LINGUAS="de" MAKEOPTS="-j5" PKGDIR="/usr/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X Xaw3d aac alsa apache2 asf berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cairo cdr cli crypt dbus dlloader dri dvdr elibc_glibc emboss encode enscript esd exoticmods fam firefox fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk hal idn imlib input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse ipv6 isdnlog jpeg kernel_linux lcms libg++ linguas_de mad mhash mikmod mmx mp3 mpeg mpm-worker mysql ncurses new-login nls no-old-linux nowebdav nptl nptlonly offensive ogg opengl oss pam pcre perl php png ppds pppd python qt3 qt4 readline reflection samba sdl session smp spell spl sse sse2 ssl svg symlink tcpd tetex threads truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev usb userland_GNU video_cards_radeon vim-with-x vorbis win32codecs wmf xml xmms xorg xv zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Does this issue still occur with Xorg 7.1? Please re-open when you answer.
(In reply to comment #1) > Does this issue still occur with Xorg 7.1? Yes, it does.
Alright, attach your xorg.conf and a Xorg log from one of the sessions when it starts with the wrong resolution.
Created attachment 104559 [details] xorg.conf

I have what might be the same problem. See my forum post at the end of: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-301710-highlight-xorg+resolution.html My user name on the forum is NotCourse6, and I included both a diff between the "working" Xorg.0.log and the "incorrect" Xorg.0.log as well as my xorg.conf. X-related packages currently installed are: xorg-x11 7.1 xorg-server 1.1.1-r3 xf86-video-ati 6.6.3 gdm 2.16.4 xdm 1.1.3 (installed as backup just in case GDM is snarky) This is a problem that has actually started happening very recently; I only noticed it being a major issue a couple of months ago. I will add my emerge --info as an attachment to this bug. -Ricardo-

(In reply to comment #7) > Created an attachment (id=104879) [edit] > Ricardo's emerge --info > I seem to be suffering the same problem. When I open Blackbox, Fluxbox, or even X-Session, my 1280x800 screen is reported (via Gdk) at 2560x800. I am using X 7.1, Kernel 2.6.18, on an amd64 laptop with a ATI driver (fglrx) This a a new problem with me after the latest update. Bill
Could everyone try xorg 7.2 and see if that helps any? Alexander, please re-open once you have done so.

(In reply to comment #10) > I have still the same problem with xorg 7.2. > And now with xdm 1.1.4?
(In reply to comment #11) > And now with xdm 1.1.4? If I exit X11 using STRG+ALT+BACKSPACE, the resolution is correct, but if I close the WM, it is still incorrect.
I suspect this is a driver issue. You're on xf86-video-ati, right -- can you try 6.6.192? Please reopen when you reply.

Good to hear!
