Description Raphael 2006-09-30 04:15:13 UTC
If I make a simple postscript file I can view it in gv and kghostview just fine. However, if I make a one page latex file such as

\documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{article}
\usepackage{graphicx}

%opening
\title{}
\author{}

\begin{document}

\maketitle

\begin{abstract}

\end{abstract}

\section{}

\centerline{\includegraphics[scale=0.35,angle=270]{radix-runtime}}

\end{document}

then latex and dvips it it views fine in gv but is garbled in kghostview. A screenshot is in the above URL. I asked on irc and a few people were able to reproduce the problem.

It seems it is definitely a problem with kghostview. ps to pdf and then later viewed in kpdf works fine.

kghostview --version
Qt: 3.3.4
KDE: 3.5.4
KGhostView: 0.20

Comment 3 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-30 05:26:03 UTC
There's no point to let two developer teams work concurrently on it, Raphael. When you're sure you've found a KDE specific problem, please file your bug at bugs.kde.org, if you're unsure file it here - bug please not both.

Upstream issue, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134898
Comment 4 Raphael 2006-09-30 05:50:34 UTC
I sincerely hope the kde team don't reply "it's a gentoo issue" as people are wont to do :)

To be honest I am not sure so maybe the kde bug should point here instead?

Comment 5 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-30 06:55:19 UTC
This is definitely not a Gentoo issue.
Comment 6 Raphael 2006-09-30 15:15:44 UTC
The problem appears to be gentoo specific after all. I have checked with a dozen or so people and it is not reproducible using the same kghostview version on fedora, freebsd or archlinux (the distros people happened to have). It is reproducible on gentoo according to #gentoo and #gentoo-amd64.

I am worried this will get lost between kde and b.g.o now. Does gentoo have a different set of fonts installed by default maybe?

Comment 7 Raphael 2006-09-30 15:30:03 UTC
I have found the cause. If you unclick "use platform fonts" in kghostview the problem goes away.
