Hi smartsuite is the original S.M.A.R.T utils, but smartmontools is based upon them, and seems to be much more recent and actively maintained. Both packages install a 'smartctl' and 'smartd', but smartsuite puts them in /sbin and smartmontool puts them in /usr/sbin. Their man pages overlap, as well as /etc/init.d/smartd Since smartsuite seems to be still at its sept. 2001 state, and smartmontools has a 2003.01.20 release, it is probably the better package, with improved and superset functionality. Probably smartsuite should be masked, and smartmontools should install its binaries into /sbin. Paul
