Description Jeremy Johnson 2006-09-29 15:05:26 UTC
I'd like to make a request for an ebuild for the latex macro package
ConTeXt <http://www.pragma-ade.nl/>
which provides a unified, coherent set of macros instead of the 1300+
latex macros found on CTAN.

I've tried installing ConTeXt using the MikTex tools package manager
"mpm --install=context"
but apparently this installs ConTeXt in such a way that ConTeXt thinks it's
running on Windows with MikTeX, and does result in a working ConTeXt installation.

So instead, I've downloaded the file
http://www.pragma-ade.nl/context/current/cont-tmf.zip
and unzip'ed cont-tmf.zip to /usr/local/share/texmf/
following the instructions
http://www.pragma-ade.nl/general/manuals/minstall.pdf

but I've still not been able to get "texexec myfile.tex" to
work with Gentoo's tetex installation.
I would appreciate any help getting ConTeXt to work with Gentoo.

[EDIT]

I've mostly got ConTeXt working.

The MikTeX package manager (mpm) apparently installs a ConTeX
configured for a Windows installation, so I had to first uninstall
all the context packages installed via mpm.

Then I unpacked the cont-tmf.zip to /usr/local/share/texmf/
and as root did
# TEXFORMATS=`kpsewhich --expand-path='$TEXMFSYSVAR'`'/web2c/{$engine,}' \
  texexec --make --all

and then modified the various configuration files following the
Gentoo guide
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Linux_Installation#Updating_Gentoo_Linux

But I've still not got the extra fonts working correctly.
I should be able to run texfont.pl on type-tmf.dat and type-buy.dat to generate
extra postscript fonts and their associated typescripts:

#texfont type-tmf.dat --en=ec --fontroot="/usr/local/share/texmf" --sourcepath="/usr/local/share/texmf" --install --makepath
#texfont type-buy.dat --en=ec --fontroot="/usr/local/share/texmf" --sourcepath="/usr/local/share/texmf" --install --makepath

But my ConTeXt doesn't seem to find the correct map file entries, although I
did get TimesNewRoman to work on my laptop but not on my desktops.

All in all it's a very promising addition to the TeX family:

No progress here for over one year; closing WONTFIX. Feel free to reopen with an ebuild.
