skype 1.3.0.50 is out, and it's much more solid than the previous two betas (sound quality is vastly improved after they removed some CPU hogging signal handler apparently). Bumping the ebuild number allows it compile, no extra patches/changes required... 5:)
Mine works too. I had trouble with audio at first. I had no .asoundrc with Skype working before with version .37, but that didn't work at first with .50. When I put my old .asoundrc in, it failed in the same way that .asoundrc failed in .37 (which is better than what happened at first), then I put in a commented out .asoundrc, and that worked, so then I removed .asoundrc, and it worked, so I left it that way. It must have triggered some config change or ALSA bug. I restarted Skype each time. So, now Skype is working again. This beta works. If it fixes bugs, then great.
Well I'm commiting this to portage in a few minutes. After some headbanging on my amd64 system i finally have skype recording sound in alsa (playback was ok). It seems that it needs >=media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.11 to properly work, so the deps were added. Thanks for dropping a note here with the update.

There's a remote possibility that emerging the alsa-lib simply caused some config file changes, but this Skype is beta so I'm not worried about it myself. Skype has still not put in call forwarding features that it already has in Microsoft XP version, so we're still waiting for a new round of updates anyway. One step at a time I guess.
