emerge-info, I wish that was true! :(
I tried to reinstall from a networkless gentoo livecd on existing partitions. which were created during the first try) After I clicked install, it crapped out saying that it couldn't format /dev/sda5 (mountpoint /). When trying again I noticed that all partitions were gone. :( It looks like it's trying to read info from partitions that already exists instead of just reformating them, then when it found something, the installation aborted and left me with all other partitions blanked.

Do you have your install.log.failed, installprofile.xml, or any information that can actually help us?
