A search in google using the search terms "grub error 28" shows that this is not Gentoo specific. I have an asus motherboard with an nvidia chipset and integrated graphics and it does not seem to play nicely with grub. When booting, the grub splashscreen comes up. I select Gentoo and get dumped out with "Error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory." The same error occurs using a boot floppy after I enter "kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda4". Using lilo instead works fine. My version of grub is 0.92 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.setup grub 2.reboot 3.select gentoo from the splashscreen Actual Results: dumped to a console window with this text: Booting 'Gentoo Linux' root (hd0,1) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda4 [Linux-bzImage, setup=0xa00, size=0x12696f] Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory Press any key to continue... Expected Results: booted into Linux
