Description Tobias Sager 2003-02-01 04:31:11 UTC
In the german gentoo-user-list an often asked question is about
/var/tmp/portage and if it is safe to remove the files therein.

I propose to add a new FAQ-entry concerning this question.

Q: What's in /var/tmp/portage?
Is it safe to delete the files in /var/tmp/portage?
A: While compiling, Gentoo saves the sources of the package in
   /var/tmp/portage.
It is safe indeed to clean out all contents of /var/tmp/portage.

My addidional question: doesn't portage manage the cleaning after a
successful merge?

Thanks,
Tobias
