There was stable version dev-java/sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06 (see bug 116476), now that has vanished and there is only unstable version 1.5.0.08-r1 left.
I suppose the reporter meant ARCH=amd64, as there still is a stable one for x86. The stable version for amd64 however did indeed exist in dev-java/sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06 and has now disappeared.

There's still no stable x86 or amd64 version in portage. But we are up to 1.5.0.08-r1 1.5.0.06 was the last stable version for x86 and amd64 http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/gentoo-x86/dev-java/sun-jre-bin/sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06.ebuild
