I have had issues using rsync.namerica.gentoo.org and rsync.us.gentoo.org for syncing the Portage tree. If the rotation pulls up the IP "32.1.4.112", it always hangs for a while and eventually times out; thus, fails to sync. This IP pulls a very large percentage of the time with the namerica subdomain at both locations I manage. I tried setting it to use the us subdomain instead. The issue is less frequent, but occasionally happens with that rotation too. I have confirmed this to occur at two sites I manage in my area. Two of my systems here run sync operations once a day by vixie-cron; the other two I manually run the sync (one is my laptop, the other is a dual-booted PC). The other site I manage has one Gentoo system which runs sync operations once a day with vixie-cron. I have been forced to select a mirror manually rather than use the Portage rsync mirror rotation because of this issue. It has been ongoing for several weeks, if not months. Here is my "emerge --info" on one system (my laptop) with the information I used when the sync problems have occurred. If it would be helpful to you for the "emerge --info" from the other systems, I'd be glad to get that for you. (In reply to comment #1) > Well, we don't have a 32.* machine in either rotation, so I suspect a > stale DNS at your end? There was previously, and for some time. This occurred at two physically different sites. Since it appears it has been removed, I'll go back to using the rotation. Thanks.
