I know this looks a lot like http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133448 but the fix there (emerge next version) hasn't worked. On logging in to KDE session, cpu maxes out, and many soffice.bin processes are spawned, probably by oooqs I guess. Also there is an "openoffice" dialog button that is hung (it won't draw so I can't describe contents). They only way forward for me is to killall soffice.bin (gets rid of the CPU crisis) and killall soffice (gets rid of the hung dialog) On startup, a top gives me: top - 08:55:21 up 3 min, 3 users, load average: 86.81, 25.24, 8.69 Tasks: 476 total, 44 running, 432 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 21.0%us, 4.2%sy, 0.0%ni, 58.7%id, 15.3%wa, 0.1%hi, 0.7%si, 0.0%st Mem: 1034476k total, 872964k used, 161512k free, 17208k buffers Swap: 524280k total, 0k used, 524280k free, 174756k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 11840 will 17 0 42960 10m 8760 R 5 1.0 0:00.21 soffice.bin 11850 will 17 0 42960 10m 8776 R 5 1.0 0:00.23 soffice.bin 11851 will 17 0 42972 10m 8776 R 5 1.0 0:00.25 soffice.bin 11929 will 17 0 42968 10m 8760 R 5 1.0 0:00.23 soffice.bin 11940 will 17 0 42960 10m 8828 R 5 1.0 0:00.24 soffice.bin 11993 will 17 0 42968 10m 8760 R 5 1.0 0:00.21 soffice.bin 11833 will 17 0 42968 10m 8708 R 3 1.0 0:00.18 soffice.bin 11836 will 17 0 42960 9912 8484 R 3 1.0 0:00.16 soffice.bin 11843 will 17 0 42968 9900 8468 R 3 1.0 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11844 will 17 0 42968 9700 8348 R 3 0.9 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11845 will 17 0 42968 9888 8460 R 3 1.0 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11865 will 17 0 42960 9716 8364 R 3 0.9 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11870 will 17 0 42968 9720 8368 R 3 0.9 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11920 will 17 0 42968 9908 8480 R 3 1.0 0:00.19 soffice.bin 11923 will 17 0 42968 10m 8716 R 3 1.0 0:00.18 soffice.bin 11924 will 17 0 42960 9700 8348 R 3 0.9 0:00.15 soffice.bin 11936 will 17 0 42960 9932 8504 R 3 1.0 0:00.19 soffice.bin 11938 will 17 0 42968 9932 8504 R 3 1.0 0:00.19 soffice.bin 11976 will 17 0 42968 9720 8368 R 3 0.9 0:00.16 soffice.bin 11995 will 17 0 42960 9932 8504 R 3 1.0 0:00.18 soffice.bin 12086 will 17 0 42960 9924 8500 R 3 1.0 0:00.17 soffice.bin 11839 will 17 0 42960 9932 8504 R 2 1.0 0:00.18 soffice.bin 11853 will 17 0 42968 9936 8508 R 2 1.0 0:00.20 soffice.bin 11828 will 17 0 42960 9704 8352 R 1 0.9 0:00.15 soffice.bin 12290 will 15 0 2372 1284 768 R 1 0.1 0:00.03 top 1 root 15 0 1484 524 452 S 0 0.1 0:01.01 init Versions of relevant stuff: emerge -pv oooqs openoffice These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Is this a new problem with 2.1.0.1 or does 2.1.0 suffer from the same bug?
(In reply to comment #1) > Is this a new problem with 2.1.0.1 or does 2.1.0 suffer from the same bug? > The same problem was there in 2.1.0 - I waited for the version bump before reporting bug. So yes, it is the case for both 2.1.0.1 and 2.1.0.
More information... In recent times I can confirm that the cpu maxing out etc. is definitely only when there is that hung dialog box - otherwise there is a spate of cpu intensity while things load (which I guess is normal) and then things settle down normally. However, when the dialog box is present - the situation is as described. In recent times I have managed to get a glimpse of the dialog before it can't redraw. I can't recall the exact words (it's hard to reproduce the error) but the message is along the lines of informing that OO is in danger of overwriting data being accessed by an already running instance and asking whether the user wishes to risk running the current instance.
I encountered this in bug #133448 - still not fixed. I didn't test the quickstarter again until now.
Apparently oooqs 2.1.0.1 fixes this problem, at least when used with openoffice 2.0.4. Compiling OOO 2.1.0-r1 now to test with that as well.
(In reply to comment #5) > Apparently oooqs 2.1.0.1 fixes this problem, at least when used with openoffice > 2.0.4. Compiling OOO 2.1.0-r1 now to test with that as well. Drat, I meant to say that OOO 2.0.4 fixes this problem, since oooqs 2.1.0.1 was used in the first place :)
So I guess we can close this, as OOo 2.0.3 is not in the tree anymore. Thanks for reporting back.
Works with ooo 2.1.0 too.
Confirm here also. Closing as the reporter (am I allowed to do that?) Sorry this went off my radar for a while.
