On a 2.4.19 gentoo-sources kernel emerge lm_sensors fails, and says that 2.4.20
kernel should be used. Surely this is an unreasonable imposition?

Reproducible: Always

It fails on vanilla 2.4.20 as well.

A good solution to this problem would be to have the i2c-2.7 ebuild attempt to apply the i2c patches to the kernel source tree at /usr/src/linux during the merge, or update all the kernel trees to a new -rx release number with the new i2c patches all applied, and in the meantime, mask lm_sensors/i2c 2.7.

with gentoo-source-2.4.20-r2 i2c 2.7.0 is included

maybe we could mark it now as stable `??

The lm_sensors-2.7.0 ebuild properly depends on one of the kernels which supports it...
