Description christian 2006-09-20 19:04:11 UTC
it's keeping me from making a true change-over to linux. i tried slackware, redhat, knoppix, and gentoo, across 3 different computers, 32bit, 64bit, intel, amd. i've searched high and low for a fix...

my system works beautifully. gimp emerges fine. the problem... the cursor disappears if placed over an image to do any kind of work. i can use the selection tool and just a couple of others without a problem. but i can not use the pencil, paintbrush, burn/dodge, and most others without the cursor becoming invisible. the cursor reappears as soon as it leaves the image area. i have no problems with the cursor in any other program. if i bring up curses or levels, the cursor will reappear temporarily. i've tried gimp and gimpshop. i've tried emerging different version. i've built and installed gimp manually. i've tried different types of mice. all to no avail. please help/advise. this problem basically makes gimp half useless.

Comment 3 christian 2006-09-21 15:03:14 UTC
gimp version and emerge info below (but the same problem is continual across the last three gimps versions i've tried and different distros including gentoo 2005.0 32bit amd i686, slackware 10 and more, and 3 seperate boxes ranging from Pentium 200, PII, and now AMD3200) (all previous builds were not hardened)(each previous box had a different video card) (my flags may seem odd but give me a fast, stable system) (my only other problems so far are trying to get a couple of 32bit x86 games working correctly on my 64bit box) currently...

Shrug, definitely not a Gentoo specific issue at all according to your description, please go ask upstream:
