Description Susie Edgeworth 2003-01-31 02:14:20 UTC

Build Identifier:

problems with using su or logging in as root on a second console after starting
x as a user and trying to use the terminal in question. The terminal also can
get stuck and appear in process list but not show in X. Also if su is issued
from the term it hangs. Then any term or console that su or root login is
attempted on also hangs. Later also issues with shutdown(hangs). Not sure why
the term affected it this way. It was via trial and error I discovered it was
the specific terminal program doing this.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
this occured after some updates not sure what specifically caused this. Did
reemerge pam suspecting that as well as reinstalling cobra and did rm
.Xauthority. This just occurs after a user has logged in and launched X. Then
tried to launch mutli gnome term and then used or tried to rather the su command.

Actual Results:
as prior mentioned. Removing multi gnome terminal and rm .Xauthority seemes to
of solved the problem.

Expected Results:
Su should of simply worked in the multi gnome terminal instead of causing it to
hang. It had worked a few days ago.

are we talking about the 'old' gnome-multi terminal here, or the gnome2 terminal ?

I was using the more recient one. I don't know how to pull this bug :( But it can be cancelled. Just when I thought I had it fixed and had figured out what was causing my system issues. It turns out this wasn't it. I'm still trying to figure out what is causing this but I'm still somewhat new to linux (well at least gentoo linux though I had been on mandrake before) and don't know all the finer points as of yet. My apologies to the bugranglers and could someone explain how to cancel one if later you find out in the end an elusive bug wasn't what you thought it was?(I'm new to bugzilla and haven't used it before gentoo)

just mark it as invalid (choose resolve bug -> resolution = INVALID ) with a little explanation why as comment. go ahead and try it here.

I tried clicking on "resolution" and it takes me to a page with definitions and "unconfirmed" as a link. Clicking "uncomfirmed" gets me an error page. And it wont seem to let me change it to invalid for whatever reason. :(
