given comment #4 the answer is no, we don't keyword stuff that doesn't compile usually ;)

The problem doesn't seem that big, as stated in the build log: "recompile with -fPIC"

there are .s (assember IIRC) files involved, so it might be a bit more tricky than elsewher. Whatever, if somebody has a patch that fixes the issue we can look into it again.
