This isn't so much a bug report as an annoyance report.
I couldn't help but notice that the /etc/make.conf included with the i586 stage
3 tarball has the CHOST flag set to i686 by default. Is this a bug, an
oversight, or a feature? If it's an oversight.. well... please fix it in the
next release. Thank you....

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
extract stage3 586 tarball
nano -2 /etc/make.conf
look at it!
Actual Results:
I had to change the make.conf to reflect the CPU which this stage3 tarball is
supposed to be optimized for!

Expected Results:
It shold come with the CHOST flag set for 586! This is the 586 stage 3 tarball
after all

While it's perfectly easy to edit, it shouldn't be necessary. Every time emerge
updates make.conf I have to go in and edit it. If I forget my progs start
breaking when I update or when build new ones because they think they're being
made on a 686...

The new stager ensures consistent CHOST settings, so this should be fixed for 1.4 final. Closing.
Comment 2 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:25:12 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
