It's because you have FEATURES="keepwork". Maybe we should blacklist that in emerge like we do with "noauto".
ah yes ... this is not a regression then as i recall this has been the behavior for quite a while i was working on something else which is why i had export FEATURES=keepwork in my shell env (and why i couldnt reproduce in other new shells) might be useful to `rm -rf` the builddir when doing `emerge` ...
