I experienced surprisingly poor performance with ktorrent-1.2. My network environment is a private LAN, connected to the public Internet via a NAT router. The bandwidth of the uplink is 10 Mbit/s. Download speeds were of the order 20 KB/s, with short bursts of higher speeds. I have not changed any settings in ktorrent. After reading http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-493286.html I emerged the ~x86 version, which is 2.0.2. I now get a fair download speed, of the order 500 KB/s, again without changing any settings. So, even though 1.2 may not be completely broken it is performing very poorly in my particular environment. I should add that I have previously used Azureus on the same machine, with good results.
Well, I suppose the problem is upstream, not much we can do. Also, if it's fixed in 2.0, the problem does not require to be fixed again in 1.x. And there's not enough time to require a stable on 2.0.2.
