Gwget in portage is outdated. The latest release is from May 2006 and still not in portage.

Added a preliminary ebuild which is not different from 0.97 except the requirement for libnotify. With this ebuild, gwget 0.98.1 builds and runs fine.
Using this ebuild I recieve the following error: Processing file ./GNOME_Gwget.idl ./GNOME_Gwget.idl:17: Error: `Bonobo' undeclared identifier 0.97 is compiled without problems

Gwget 0.99 was released on May 28.
