Those headers are needed to build apps like LMMS (bug #100170) and use VST Plugins. We can't just mirror those headers and make LMMS ebuild (or other) fetch them directly because the Steinberg's license forbids redistribution.
Created attachment 97083 [details] vst-headers-2.3.ebuild An initial ebuild. Now it only install AEffect.h and aeffectx.h. More headers will be added in case that any program need them.
I tried to install this from sunrise overlay, but the URL for fetching the file leads to a 404...
Maybe 2.3 is not available anymore, or has changed location. 2.4 and 3.0 are available though. I don't find my Steinberg password, it seems the package can be download from (requires a registered account): http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/3rd_party_developer.html I haven't followed lmms development, but does it still need these headers? You may want to check proaudio overlay's lmms ebuilt which seems to support vst without depending on this package.

LMMS is now at version 0.3.2 and does not depend on these headers. So it may be a good idea to remove this package as well as lmms from Sunrise.
Upstream stopped making VST 2 SDK available for download by the end of 2013 so I don't think one can even officially download the source tarball any more. Closing as obsolete.
