Description Torsten Eichstädt 2006-09-15 03:58:55 UTC
Hi,

often people add long passages to illustrate their writings, e.g. config files or quote long passages of previous articles.

Articles would be much easier to read if these regions could be folded, e.g. only the first line (or 2,3, in case it's a quoting) or a heading showing the filename (for an included file) are shown and they have a plus sign button at their left (for western languages) side to unfold them, so they can be viewn on demand.

Probably this could enhance other gentoo website pages as well.

Proposals:
- make folded long regions a per-user variable and set it on by default.
- folding should affect:
+ quoted text longer than 3 lines; the bound number could be variable, too
+ files included longer than 3 lines
+ (all that is shown in a white box indented, so there is a method to detect)
+ lists with more than 7 topics
+ lists longer than 15 lines totally
+ add things where folding makes sense yourself

Thanks in advance,
  torsten

The forum redesign will have scroll bars on large code and quotations, thus making folding unnecessary. Thank you for your suggestion nevertheless.
